Chatham County Fibers Plant on 400+ Acres is Closing

A few weeks ago it was announced that Performance Fibers, one of the world’s leading producers of industrial polyester fiber and fabrics, will be closing its plant. The plant is on approximately 420 acres in New Hill North Carolina, just outside of Moncure in southeast Chatham County.

Word is that the Chatham County Economic Development Corporation may be working with this industrial property and a nearby vacant 1,000 acres of undeveloped land.

The closing of the Performance Fiber plant means the loss of around 200 jobs in Chatham County. The company is consolidating production of their product in its Salisbury plant, and up to 60 employees may transfer from the New Hill plant.
